Well if I'm going to get back into the PC gaming crowd I've decided I'm going to do it right. This is all the equipment I'm looking to put into my new box. Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions on going a different route.
Cooler Master CM Stacker 830 ATX Full-Tower Aluminum Case with Vented Side and 1000-Watt Power Supply
EVGA nForce 780i SLI Motherboard CPU Bundle - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor 2.40GHz
2 in SLI Mode - EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked Video Card - 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, Dual DVI, HDTV
4 - Centon 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, Serial ATA-300, OEM
Masscool 8WA741 / Socket 775 / Copper Core/Heatpipes / CPU Cooling Fan
I was thinking 7 Masscool 120mm Sleeve Bearing Case Fan plus the 2 that come with the case because I've been reading the 8800GT's run hot, especially with two in the case.
The only thing really holding me from building this box is if it's worth coming back to PC Online gaming. I've been addicted to XBOX Live, but I'm getting a little tired of the same hack and slash matches in COD4 and Halo. The reason I'm thinking of coming back to the PC is beacuse most everyone I meet was all about the group and not just the game. Does everyone game regularly and what PC games are good now-a-days.
Hope to hear back from everyone. |

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to spark interest in sins of a solar empire. think starcraft with some empire building and huge fleet battles with planetary invasions to expand your empire and increase resources and space structures to repel invastions. long games and some strategy involved but of course you run into people that just spam cheap units-the same as in any rts. but its fun so two thumbs up...some flaws tho-no campaign only mp and skirmish mode and the mp mode could be set up better. not game killers imo.
i need to find my DOW CD's-have no idea where they are but thats also a good game. much faster than the one above.
by the way your system could easily handle both of these. |

Myrddraal
looks like a good system
just some things that i noticed
the case is great.. unless you are running a ultra high end system the 1K power supply could be dropped for something less $.. probably 750W or so
some new quad cores are due to come out.. forgot when but they are the QX9000's series and i would suggest looking to when the due date is just to make sure before you buy
the memory.. never heard of them.. what i would suggest is G.Skill memory.. me likey... i got 2 2GB DDR2/800 kits in my system cost less than $100 for a total of 4GB of system memory
hard drive is good.. see if you can get one with 32MB of Cache memory (faster map loading times and such)
as far as the 8800GT's getting hot.. until they get to about 80C is normal.. mine with a 740/2000MHz overclock stay under that with 80% fan speed.. but with faster fan speeds it does get noisy.. after market coolers are an option but EVGA is releasing a new card soon that comes with a bigger cooler
dont know when the ETA of these cards are but they are very interesting

| There are 6 SATA ports / plugs on that board. 4 over near the memory and 2 others (i cant see them in that pic). But Shad verifies there are 6 on that board. |

It's funny my UBER system consists of a 2.08 Ghz AMD Athlon XP 2600, with 1 MB Ram, 2 Maxtor HD's, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE video card, and a Creative AudioPCI ES1371 (WDM) audio card....
Pretty Dam Weak lol. But I do alright still.
Im in the process of obtaining further computer parts to try to piece one together that will be better.
I'll update you soon on the stuff I've gotten so far (only spent 80 bucks so far), most was free. |
